PART 1 [18/1/12]
A boy is making his way to the Dark Cave when he gets pushed aside by a man in rough working clothes, with a weird machine attached to his left arm.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going!” the boy calls out.
“Bit dark in there for you isn’t it?” the man sniggers.
“My Togepi will light the way. I don’t need to be scared. Anyway, I was only going to see Entei.”
“Togepi? Not scared? See Entei? Fine! Get ready to be scared kid!”
The man pulls a Pokeball from his pocket and activates it. A Houndoom appears and starts wailing. After a few seconds a shadow appears in the entrance to the Dark Cave. Entei appears and starts charging down the Houndoom. The machine the man is wearing comes alive and a ball drops into the claw-like grip at the bottom.
As Entei gets nearer, the man then throws the ball, which casts a dark aura as it flies. Entei realises too late what is happening and gets captured inside the ball, which bounces on the ground and flies back to the machines grip.
“What have you done with Entei?” the boy shouts.
“Oh don’t worry,” the man replies. “He’s still here. In fact, let me introduce you to him. Entei! Go!”
The man throws the Pokeball and Entei reappears, but with a dark aura surrounding him. The boy goes to run, but sees the Houndoom growling at him as he turns around. The boy realises just then that the Houndoom also has the dark aura surrounding it.
“What have you done with these Pokémon?” the boy shouts at the man.
“Oh they’re fine. Trust me. But now they can reveal their true power, as I’ll demonstrate.”
The Houndoom then tackles the boy from behind, who then collapses.
“My work here is done and Team Snagem is reborn!”
PART 2 [19/1/12]
“News can finally reveal the disappearance of Entei, one of the Legendary Beasts, from the region of Johto. Although this next part is still rumour, it speculates that Entei has been seen in the hands of a trainer who is using it to destroy other trainers’ Pokémon. Any more news relating to this would be welcome since-”
“Entei couldn’t be going around with trainers. Legendaries don’t just do that. They aren’t bound to anyone,” Ash Ketchum says.
“Professor Oak, that can’t be true, can it?” Misty asks.
“Well I wouldn’t know myself,” Professor Oak replies, “But I know someone who would. A long time friend from the far off desert region of Orre, Professor Krane has been investigating the Shadow Pokémon, and how to purify them, I think is the right phrase.”
“But what are Shadow Pokémon?” Brock asks.
“You’ll need to visit the Orre region to find out,” Professor Oak tells the trio, “But first you’ll have to find out if the rumours are true. Travel back to the Johto region and hunt out this trainer. Report back as soon as possible and I’ll have transport awaiting you to take you to Orre.”
“Our Pokémon can handle it, right guys?” Ash says.
“Sure they can,” Brock agrees.
“We’ll do our best to uncover this mystery,” Misty says.
“Pika!” Pikachu exclaims.
“It’s sorted then. I’ll contact Professor Elm and alert him to your arrival, and also if he can dig up new info on this mystery. But one thing I can say is be careful when around the Johto region. You don’t know how many of those people are around. And one other thing. These Shadow Pokémon are apparently ruthless and have no emotion.”
Professor Oak pulls out three Poke Watches and hands them to the trio.
“These just came from Sinnoh, newly upgraded. Now good luck, and keep in touch.”
PART 3 [20/1/12]
“These shadow Pokémon sound like tough things to beat,” Brock says.
“Especially if Entei has been made into one,” Ash ventures aloud.
Ash, Misty and Brock ride to New Bark Town on a boat. The driver of the boat is a friendly person, and also decides to join in the conversation.
“That Entei is no longer thinking straight,” he says. “It’s joined some trainer and is going on a rampage throughout the whole of Johto. I’m surprised you lot are travelling here, to be honest.”
“We’ve been through a lot worse,” Ash says.
The boat finally reaches New Bark Town, and Professor Elm is waiting by the side of the bank. As Ash, Misty and Brock climb out of the boat, Professor Elm calls them to hurry up.
As they all head back to Professor Elm’s lab, the atmosphere seems tight and dark. No-one appears to be walking about.
“Professor,” Brock asks, “What’s happened here? It used to be a lively place. All of Johto did.”
“I’ll tell you in a bit. Inside, quickly.” Elm says.
The four of them quickly head inside the lab, where the screens are showing maps of Johto and where Pokémon have been sighted.
“We’ve been tracking where these so-called Shadow Pokémon have been sighted. And if our sources are correct, the path seems to be leading directly to the Ruins of Alph,” Elm reports.
“The place of the Unown,” Brock says. “But why would they be heading there?”
“The most powerful Pokémon by far. With the Unown on their side, what they could do is very definately unknown,” Elm says. “Head over to the Ruins of Alph. One of my boat drivers will get you there quickly. I’m sure Professor Oak has given you instructions?”
“Yes. He did,” Ash replies.
“Go then, and report back on your findings to me, or if he stated, Oak.”
Ash, Misty and Brock follow one of the boat drivers out, and head towards a speedboat. They head inside and out of the harbour.
PART 4 [21/1/12]
“This is just a shortcut so you don’t meet many trainers,” The boat driver says. “Although I’ve contacted Olivine City to say that you will need an escort.”
“Thanks,” Ash says. “But why Olivine? Why not just go through Cherrygrove City instead?”
“Reports say that those trainers with the Shadow Pokémon are still on Route 31. The same place as the Dark Cave,” the driver replies.
“The same place Entei was captured,” Brock ventures.
“Exactly!” Ash exclaims. “And any trainers getting in the way will most likely be seen as a threat. But heading in from the other direction would be safer since there won’t be anyone about.”
“You have good knowledge,” the driver remarks. “Anyway, we’re here now so I’ll leave you safe. And it looks like Jasmine herself has come to escort you.”
Ash, Brock and Misty leave the boat to be met by Jasmine, Olivine’s Gym Leader. They walk in silence to the Pokémon Centre.
Once inside, Jasmine then speaks. “We have located the trainers who are dealing with those Shadow Pokémon and can secretly get you three into the Ruins of Alph to check the rumours. A team of ten will accompany you, including myself.”
“Thank you,” Ash says. “Can we leave now?”
“So soon?” Jasmine asks.
“We need to get elsewhere once we’ve uncovered this rumour so the earlier the better,” Misty replies.
“OK then. The team is at the entrance to Route 39. Let’s go,” Jasmine reports.
The four exit the Pokémon Centre and head north to the entrance to Route 39. Once there, nine others tag along and all of them continue on through Route 39. At Route 38, though, a trainer stands guard near the entrance.
“Sam. You know what to do,” Jasmine whispers. “The rest, wait up until he is distracted. Then go as fast as you can.”
“Hey!” Sam calls.
“Houndoom! Go!” is the response from the trainer.
“Hey, come on. Not fair!” Sam shouts.
“You shout. You call for a battle. Now draw,” the trainer says.
“Fine. Kingler! Go!”
“Quick. Now,” Jasmine whispers to everyone else.
While they all rush through the woods, they hear the trainer call out “Houndoom! Shadow Flame!”
“Shadow Flame?” Ash wonders.
“Don’t worry about it. Just go quick,” Jasmine calls back.
As they pass the trainer and head deeper into Route 38, Kingler’s call rings through the silence. And then a human scream pierces the woods.
Everyone stops still. A Fearow’s cry then brings everyone back to their senses and they run for Ecruteak City. Everything looks normal so they relax.
But out of the silence rings “Not my Espeon! Please! Not Espeon!”
A trainer with the same clothes as that seen on the trainer in Route 38 appears, not even taking note of a group of twelve in a place so empty, and turns south. Jasmine runs to where the trainer came from, with the others following in a rush.
Outside the Kimono Dance Theatre stands Jasmine with one of the Kimono girls, who is crying.
“Now what happened?” Jasmine asks.
“He- He sent out a Pokémon I didn’t recognise. D- Dark in outline it was. Then when I refused to battle him, h- h- he used a device which triggered the release on Espeon’s Poke Ball and then used another of a t- type I had never seen. I- It left a dark aura as it travelled through the air. All I could tell was it was a machine on his left arm which did it. The ball just came from it and was gripped in metallic claws then threw. It captured my Espeon and returned to the metallic claws grip.”
“Did he say who he was?” Ash asks.
“H- He mentioned a group called Team Snagem.”
PART 5 [22/1/12]
The Kimono girl then burst into tears. Jasmine selects two of the guard to look after the Kimono girl, while the rest were to continue guard. Jasmine also promised that they would return the Espeon as soon as they could. The group then moves south and back into wild territory. Route 37.
Heading down the path does nothing to stir anyone, so the group continues. Near the border of Route 37, however, two of the Team Snagem grunts appear from behind a tree.
“Hand over your Pokémon and come quietly,” one of them says.
“And why would we do that?” Jasmine asks.
“Come on,” the other laughs. “We’ve met quite a few trainers on our travels, but none as stupid as you.”
“Call us stupid, and you’ll get what’s coming to you,” Jasmine remarks.
“Go! Steelix!” one of the group shouts, as the other split.
“Go! Metang!” another of the group shouts.
Steelix and Metang appear in front of the group, protecting them.
“Oh, now that’s stupid,” one of the Team Snagem grunts remarks.
“Who cares. Get ‘em,” the other says. “Go! Typhlosion!”
“Go! Bayleef!” the other of Team Snagem says.
The Typhlosion and Bayleef wait either side of Team Snagem.
“Go!” Jasmine shouts.
Everyone else except the two in battle flee the scene. The group crashes into Route 36, and thunders through the forestry until they reach the entrance to the Ruins of Alph.
Walking more slowly, they enter the lobby of the Ruins to be met with a member of Team Snagem.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here then?” he says, a gleeful note to his voice.
PART 6 [23/1/12]
The member of Team Snagem gets less confident however, weighing up the odds of more than five to one. He scarpers.
“Quick! After him!” Jasmine shouts.
The group exit the lobby and are surrounded by caves. They head around a corner and almost run into four Team Snagem grunts.
“The odds are on our side now,” one of them says.
Eight Pokémon then appear.... Lombre, Linoone, Marill, Fearow, Machamp, Loudred, Oddish, and Geodude. All eight form a guard line in front of the four Snagem grunts, and also blocking the way forward.
“What do you think you are doing here, anyway?” Jasmine asks. “The Unown won’t accept this, just like Entei wouldn’t.”
“Oh, so you know about our capture of Entei. What about all the other Pokémon then? All those from the trainers around this region. We’ll be expanding. And fast,” a Snagem grunt says.
“Well you aren’t getting away from here,” Jasmine retorts, and with that, the four remaining guards step forward and unleash their Pokémon. Before the battling could begin however, Pikachu escapes Ash’s hold and walks into the middle of the two groups of Pokémon.
“What! A Pikachu! I’ve got to get me one of those,” a Snagem grunt shouts.
“Pikachu! Come back!” Ash shouts.
Pikachu, however, has other ideas. It crouches down, and electric starts charging up. Then with a shout, it unleashes the electricity into the Snagem grunts and their Pokémon, half of which faint. Even one trainer does. However, this makes one of the Snagem grunts even more interested in catching it.
Using the same machine as the others of Team Snagem, a Poke ball drops down into the claw grip and is thrown, casting a dark aura as it flies. Its trajectory heads it Pikachu’s way, and as it hits Pikachu on the head, the Poke ball fails to open and instead rebounds and hits the Geodude on the field instead. The Snagem grunt, undeterred by this, tries again. Again the same thing happens, but the ball is just left lying on the ground. Again and again the Snagem grunt tries. Again and again it fails.
“Now this should do it,” the Snagem grunt says.
“Pikachu! Get back here. You’ve done well,” Ash shouts.
A harsh glow then appears from one of the Snagem grunts’ arms. As Pikachu starts to turn around, a great dark mass heads its way, and envelopes it.
“Pikachu! No!” Ash shouts.
The dark energy then explodes outward, and Pikachu reappears. A dark aura surrounds it however.
“Now Pikachu!” the Snagem grunt says, “Thunder Shadow!”
A dark cloud appears over the four trainers of the guard, and their Pokémon, then a dark lightning bolt shoots down into the middle of the group. The Pokémon the trainers had summoned all faint and return to their respective balls. The trainers have fared no better however. They are also on the ground, suffering from the effects of Pikachu’s move.
“Now then. Who else shall face me?” the Snagem grunt asks.
Ash moves closer, and slowly walks toward Pikachu. He then crouches next to it.
“Pikachu. Remember. It’s me. Think of all the adventures we had,” Ash says.
Pikachu looks up at Ash, an odd look on its face. Electricity then charges up in Pikachu’s cheeks. Ash, sensing danger, quickly moves away, a downcast expression on his face.
He then looks up at the sky and shouts for the world to hear - “PIKACHUUUUUUUUU!”
